Let's try this again ...

Ft. Massac State Park

My misadventures derailed. Life has a way of happening like that. When I started this blog 5 years ago I had plans for retiring and having many adventures at home and away to write about. But those plans didn't know how the effects Covid, the passing of my son, and birth of a grandson would cause my course to take a sharp turn. While retirement is not going as I originally planned it has been joyful (for the most part) and full of adventures - just a different kind. And I'm happy with the new course.

Today begins a new year and is always a good time to start new things or try to improve on things we may have been neglecting. So I was back to the local park and walking today. It was a beautiful day and I forgot my earbuds so my walk gave me time to think about many things. One of the many random thoughts that came to mind was resurrecting this blog. So here I am, tablet and keyboard before me trying to figure out what my new "direction" could be. My mind was writing good stuff while I walked but that was then, this is now. So I will begin with just catching up.

I have been spending a lot of my days the last 3 years as babysitter for my youngest grandson. I am blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy this little guy. He is now 3 1/2 years and a very active boy. We play all day and there's nothing I'd rather be doing. My other 3 grandkids are older and still a lot of fun. They love to come play in the pool in summertime and now and then we have game days, playing cards or board games. They are all involved in a variety of school activities and I try to attend those as much as possible. Watching your grandchildren grow up is one of life's greatest pleasures. My daughters have always been there for me whether it's for work or play they are my greatest accomplishments.

I have still had time for some amazing trips, fun campouts, visits with family, and keeping up with friends old and new. I still enjoy attending living history events, growing herbs, hiking, and various crafts.
I no longer worry about checking items off my bucket list. I still have ideas but I think I'm just going to follow God's lead from now on. He's taken care of me so far. Many of the things I thought I had to do just aren't as important to me anymore.

And, of course, with age comes health concerns. My husband and I have had our share of those these last few years. So a quiet night relaxing at home is another one of life's joys. I am happy to have learned that we can enjoy each other without running ourselves ragged in the process. It is nice to have some downtime, binge watching some detective series or having a quiet dinner out, just the two of us.

So I really should rename this blog - if I only knew how. I'll try to keep up a little better but not committing to regular posts. When the mood hits, like today, I'll share the latest news, trip, or whatever I'm up to and maybe somebody will find it interesting. This month I do have a trip to Mexico planned so I'll try and write about it when I return.

Thanks for reading my rambles. Blessings in the upcoming year.

Bonnie
